i always regretted not watching more films. it’s never enuff really. and it would’ve been something to bond over with my mum and the more artistically inclined friends i had. from my side, i was hamstrung by my ocd and perfectionism around viewing conditions, which i eventually grew out of. but i left a lot of tv shows unfinished for this reason, so i won’t bother listing them (my faves by far were Breaking Bad S1–S3 and The Wire S1–S2; their best season was S2 for both imo)
i made a letterboxd account to quickly list the 86 notable films i watched. i picked films i was sure i could remember left an impact on me. compared with for music, my taste is for sure much more mainstream
i filtered out disposable-ish romantic comedies (e.g. The Proposal, Up In The Air), animated films (e.g. Wall-E, My Neighbour Totoro), action films (e.g. Taxi Deux, The Avengers). i represented series i watched entirely with only their first film (specifically Star Wars (first 2 trilogies), LoTR, Toy Story, Harry Potter, Shrek, Pirates Of The Carribean). there are also several that don’t make the cut cos they left little impression (e.g. The Dark Knight, Django Unchained, The Grand Budapest Hotel) or i’m unsure if i saw the whole thing (e.g. Mrs. Doubtfire, Amélie, Little Miss Sunshine)
i picked 13 loved films (likes on my profile) and 4 favourite films – unordered: Trainspotting, Cidade de Deus, The Departed (including Infernal Affairs), Parasite
many of my loved films are partly carried by how closely they reflect my own cultural context, especially Trainspotting, About a Boy and Son of Rambow. Withnail and I also fits but i found it dull on the whole except for the ponce scene i put in my letterboxd bio and the camberwell carrot guy
if i ever had an idol from a film, it might be claude from Dans La Maison. i’ll let the reader figure out why
à suivre
films i especially wish i had seen but never did: The Big Lebowski, Juno
